This is a great restaurant for southerners missing home. I’m from NC and have been up here less than a year, but man, am I homesick. This place heals me a little.nnThe sweet tea is legit. That is REAL sweet tea. Not that junk at fast food restaurants.nnI have ordered two different things: the shrimp po’boy and the shrimp and grits. Both were incredible. That shrimp is juicy and spiced just right. The bread for the po boy is thick, and the grits for shrimp and grits were the right texture.nnI only wish they had sides like mashed potatoes, collard greens, and the like. But the sides are still decent. Always go for pimento.nnI don’t know if these owners are southern themselves or just like southern food, either way, they know what they’re doing and could win over the toughest mawmaw.
Coming from Dallas, TX, we were craving some Southern comfort after landing in Bangor… and wow, were we blessed by this meal! You can taste the owner’s passion and assiduous care in every dish.nnThe chicken and dumplings were some of the best I’ve ever had, and my husband couldn’t stop raving about his Thanksgiving sandwich and the pasta salad.nnThis spot should definitely be on your list when visiting Bangor, ME!
Run, don’t walk—Southern Spoon in Brewer is a hidden gem.nTucked a little off the beaten path, this place is so worth finding. We had one of the best lunches I’ve had in the greater area. The pimento BLT was incredible—one bite in and I was hooked. It was an extremely thick sandwich stacked high on homemade buttered bread. Just perfect.nnWe chose the potato salad as a side, and it was easily one of the best I’ve had in years—creamy, flavorful, and just right. The pasta salad was also great, but the potato salad was the clear winner.nnThe atmosphere inside was cozy, peaceful, and welcoming. We ordered out this time, but we’re already planning to come back and eat in to enjoy the vibe.nn15/10—Southern Spoon is officially on our list of go-to spots. Return customers for sure.
We had an absolutely fantastic meal at Southern Spoon! From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was amazing—friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being overbearing.nnThe food was beyond delicious. I ordered the fish tacos and absolutely loved them; they were perfectly seasoned and so fresh. My husband devoured the jambalaya, saying it was packed with flavor. My niece's macaroni and cheese with pot roast was the ultimate comfort food, so rich and tender that we had to get a small take-home box of it (no leftovers were possible for the rest!).nnEvery single plate was cleaned. This spot is an instant classic for us. We've found a new family favorite and will definitely be back again and again. Highly recommend
We went last Friday night. Im not a fan of spicy foods. I had the Mac and cheese with Mississippi pot roast. It was AMAZING. My husband had shrimp and grits. I haven't cared for grits in the past, but these were great. I'm having that the next time we go. I highly recommend this restaurant.
